Sam Allardyce has told the Chronicle that he believes Sunderland’s inability to take their chances in matches has been thwarting them recently.

The Black Cats have lost their last four Premier League matches, and they have only hit the back of the net three times in these fixtures.

And with a contest against Liverpool next up this evening, Allardyce is hoping to see a greater ruthless edge to his side’s display.

He said: “One, can we find our frontmen to score when they get a chance, which has been thwarting us recently?

“And two, we have to get much more resilient defensively to stop leaking these goals particularly in the first 20-25 minutes.

“It’s not a difficult thing for anybody to work out what we have got to do.”

Sunderland’s four consecutive defeats have put them back into serious trouble.

The Black Cats had started to show signs of progression under Allardyce, but they have now slipped back into the drop zone.

Sunderland are seven points away from safety, and their recent displays have offered little encouragement.

So basically he's saying (and only said it about West Ham a thousand or so times) 'we have to score more goals and let less in'. Why has he been so criminally overlooked by England over the years?
How great is it that we don't have to put up with that same old shit every week now?

I can see why he's annoyed. If they'd taken all three of their efforts on target against City and not conceded from the nine efforts against they'd have won 3-0.

Just reward for their 8% possession.

I'd have no worries about the Cats nicking this one. They won't, of course, but if they do the Mickies will still be in victim mode when they come to our drum, which will probably do us a favour.

I think Liverpool struggle when the opposition don't have a lot of the ball. Their game is pressing high and forcing errors. They would beat man Utd and struggle against Sunderland.

Brilliant tip onto the post by Mannone from Firmino.

No one should want Liverpool to win. Partly because they're Liverpool and I never want them to win, also because there's every chance we could be very close to them come the end of the season.

What happened to Rodwell, wasn't he meant to be a 'prospect' once upon a time?

Not sure Sunderland have a goal in them.
Liverpool looking nothing special to be fair. Though I would pick Obiang on Saturday to sit in the spaces in front of the back 4 where Coutinho wants to get the ball.
